Different types of night vision devices include the focus of today’s article, the monocular, as well as binoculars, goggles, glasses and cameras.

These days, night vision devices aren’t limited to military usage and are used in many different applications, for example law enforcement and civilians. Let’s take a look at some of them.

What Are the Uses for Night Vision Devices?

Gen 1 NV Technology

The Nightfall II night vision monocular features Gen 1 technology. Night vision devices that feature Gen 1 technology are the most frequently purchased as they are much less expensive than devices with Gen 2 & Gen 3 technology.

The Firefield Nightfall FF24066 uses Gen 1 technology to produce images of dark areas that you would otherwise be unable to see. While the image that’s produced is somewhat grainy, you’re still provided with the ability to see some details in the dark. This is invaluable in some scenarios.

Viewing Distance, Resolution and Magnification

The Firefield Nightfall FF24066 has a viewing distance of up to 200 meters with 15° field of view, but its focus is primarily that of close focus range. If a long viewing distance is a must have, you’ll need to consider a different monocular.

As is the case with almost all Gen 1 NV devices, the Firefield Nightfall FF24066 possesses a resolution of 36mm per line. While not the highest resolution on the market, this resolution will suit the needs of most. The Nightfall II possesses a 5x magnification.

IR Illuminator

While the built-in Pulse infrared illumination is necessary for most NV devices, this feature significantly reduces battery life. Regardless of the power consumption, it is a must-have for many hunters.

The Firefield Nightfall FF24066 has an IR wavelength of 805 nm while its intensity measures at 75mW. This will be a handy feature considering the magnification is so high.

Battery

Two AA batteries are required to operate the Firefield Nightfall FF24066. When the Firefield Nightfall FF24066 is used with infrared illuminator, you can expect the battery to last 20 hours. Without IR it will last up to 72 hours.

Please bear in mind that these batteries are not included and will need to be purchased separately. You can purchase these batteries almost anywhere.
